It's another gloomy, rainy fall day here in Wisconsin. Perfect for scary movies. I got to leave work 4 hours early today (cutting back and all that), and I got the "itch."

This time of year is my FAVORITE. I call October "Scary Movie Month," which is the bane of my family's existence for the entire 31 days. LOL! It absolutely drives them crazy..

There are "annuals," which I make them watch with me every year:

"Halloween" (the original, the remake sucked, IMO)
"An American Werewolf in London"
"Monster Squad"
"Silver Bullet"
"The Mothman Prophecies"
"The Ring"
""Blair Witch Project"
"Secret Window"

Then I scour "On Demand" and Blockbuster for more.

I'm not a fan of slasher films ("Halloween" is about as far as I go), but I'm always looking for new scary movies.

I also like "The Seventh Sign," "Bless The Child," "Skeleton Key" "The Dark Half"....most all of the Stephen King books made into movies, oh and lots more. I could go on and on.

What do you guys like to watch at this time of year?

The Changeling - w/George C. Scott 4 creeps
The Uninvited - w/Ray Milland 4 creeps
Ghostbusters - w/everyone 0 creeps but buckets of fun
Arsenic and Old Lace (which is actually a Halloween story) - w/Cary Grant 1 creep and buckets of fun
Lost Boys - 3 creeps and sexy vampires (forget about Twighlight)
The Thing - both the original and the Kurt Russell version 4 creeps and aliens

Rosie!!!!!!!!! I thought I was the only person my age who even knew about "The Uninvited" w/Ray Milland. That is a great flim.

I also like "The Thing," both versions.

Your list reminded me of "Ghost Story" which I just watched the other day, based on the Peter Straub story. With Melvin Douglas, Fred Astaire, John Houseman, and Douglas Fairbanks, Jr.

Also LOVE "Invasion of the Body Snatchers," the orignal and the one with Donald Sutherland.

There is no way I could list all my favs nor could i possibly choose just a few - this is my time of the year- October is hands down my favorite month.
I was in heaven a few years ago when TCM played scary movies every day for the entire month of October - I loved every minute of those old movies!! (I already had most of them on VHS but I didn't care!) I love any scary movie or any movie that has anything to do with Halloween (like - Halloween town, It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown, etc).
Arsenic and Old Lace is one of my all time favorite movies, and Secret Window is so awesome! I could rave about almost all the movies you guys listed, but I will spare you! lol

Oh - and this time of year I go back and reread all my Edgar Allen Poe - and Charles DIckens' ghost stories, even though he set them at Christmas time, they are still ghost stories so they count in my book as Halloween reading.

You guys have some good ones. I love all of them.
Although I have always been disappointed in S. King movies, I think he has too. Salem's Lot is the scariest of all his books made into movies and it was made for TV, go figure.
The best S. King adaption ever and one of the best movies ever was Shawshank Redemption

My all time favorite scary movie is The Haunting (the original) with Claire Bloom and Julie Harris
Audition - it's a japanese horror film and it's completely disgusting.
Jeepers Creepers - I'm telling you, it's scary.
Freaks - If you can get a copy of the original 1932 film, it's worth the watch, if you can stand it.
Black Christmas - the 1974 one with Olivia Hussy
The Sentinel - 1977
Saw - the first one
Dracula - cuz I flove Gary Oldman
Seven - I guess it's more thriller than scary, but I love it.

The Abominable Dr. Philbes - 1971 with Vincent Price
Salem's Lot
The Exorcist
and so many others

ROFLMAO - oh yeah, The Exorcist (I was IN it -one of the trick-or-treat kids at the beginning - and I forgot that ONE????)

Note to self: Include movies you are actually IN.

Love the Straub book "Ghost Story" - did NOT love the movie - it was just "okay" for me dawg.

I forgot about Salem's Lot. That movie still scares the hell out of me. So creepy. I love the "Nosferatu" vampire my niece and nephews have nicknamed "Herbie." Why, I don't know.

HOW could I forget about "Rosemary's Baby?" That one still gets to me too.

Sharon, I love the "Dracula" with Gary Oldman too. Love that guy. What is "Freaks" about? You've piqued my interest with that one. How the heck am I going to find a copy of that one????
